This will be my fourth year of involvement with the MGM Wrestling Club, third as a volunteer coach. I was born and raised in Iowa City, Iowa, entering my first competitive tournament in a rugged 45# bracket. Competitively I was a four year varsity letter winner for Iowa City High School, where we won class 4A State Wrestling Championship in 1992. I was able to represent the State of Iowa in the Junior National Freestyle Tournament in 1992.
I graduated from the University Of Iowa School Of Business where my passion for wrestling continued as a spectator only and a work career eventually brought me to the Madison area in 2005. My wife and I settled in McFarland in 2012 and today have two young boys, both of which participate in the MGM Wrestling Club and several other community sports and activities. We look forward to spending many more years in this community.
My mission as a youth volunteer coach is to promote the sport that has taught me so many competitive and life lessons, to our athletes and club parents. Collectively for wrestlers at a young age, we’re not coaching for wins and losses. We ARE coaching for the smiles, laughs, comraderies, bonds and friendships this sport will bring to our club wrestlers and parents. As a parent, if there is hesitation that your child may not listen or pay attention well enough, my advice would be to join the club. Your child will fit right in!
